Hms Starling 350

The Mirage Hobby Company have produced a large range of mainlv Tvpe VII and Type IX U-boats in 1 400 scale which are superbly detailed and come as full-hull models. The only thing that needs replacing are the light AA guns plus the addition of some railings and vertical ladders. I first of all assembled the main hull and deck before I cut it down to a waterline using my motor tool, fitted with a disc saw. After cleaning up the sawn edges, the rest of the model was built. I replaced the two...

Conclusion 1

If I am totally honest, this kit builds into a great looking model of a superb subject, but I was disappointed with the fit of some of the parts, lam used to Formula 1 resin kits of better quality, but this said, with a lot of test fitting it's well worth building as the results are worth all the effort. My sincere thanks to Steve Hemming for the help with the paint and Jon Winter for the reference pictures. Materials Resin, photo-etched metal, steel rod, vacuum-formed clear parts, waterslide...

Model Kit Porsche 911 Rasin

The White Ensign Models WEM kit is everything you'd expect from this company - it wreaks of top quality. The castings in resin and white metal are superb, requiring hardly any clean-up. It goes without saying the level of detail cast into the parts is amazing. The hull is split lengthways, giving you a choice of waterline or full hull configuration. An extensive photo-etched PE brass sheet is supplied along with an excellent instruction manual. The PE sheet supplies you with enough spare parts...

Wheels And Tyres

Oh dear, this is the poor part of this kit I looked long and hard for O The decals are printed by Dexter Models and conform well using Oaco setting solutions. Resin is the material of choice from Profil 24 tor the Interior components. These parts were simply cleaned up and painted using the instructions as a guide with further details picked out from reference images. The Profil 24 kit carries the lines of the 1994 Le Mans racer well. The real car Is still in existence and was shown at the...

Scratchbuilt Gozanti Cruiser From Star Wars

Gozanti Cruiser

Gary R.Welsh builds a'Gozanti Cruiser' from Star Wars Episode I. The trouble with building sci-fi apart from the woeful luck of reference material , is that unless you are prepared to scrntchbuild, many subjects remain illusive, either due to a lack of any kit in the first place, or prohibitively expensive garage and even, at times, mainstream, kits. The Gozanti Cruiser is one of those quirky designs, one that really got to me when I first cast my eyes on it. A typical odd-number engined ship...

Gozanti Cruiser

These are some of the kits used by the author when sourcing interesting looking components to create the surface detail of the Gozanti Cruiser. The exact same process took place many years ago when the creative geniuses at ILM made the original Star Wars models - and probably with the same kits Once detailing was complete, it was time to test fit all the finished subassemblies prior to paint. This is a critical point in any scratchbuild, because if it doesn't fit the only person to blame is...

Conclusion

Gozanti Cruiser

This was the first 'Star Wars' model I have built where I had no physical miniature to take reference from. Transferring CGI images into practical models has its share of difficulties, but is not impossible. Many times I had to look at the shapes objectively and there is a lot to be said for the old adage 'if it looks right, it is right '. Unfortunately the Gozanti Cruiser was modified between Episodes I amp II. so the CGI images on Wookipedia do not tally with my model. However, in my defence,...

Now It Was Time To Age The Model

Gozanti Cruiser

Ageing metallics is a tricky affair or can be if you use some of the more sensitive finishes available, it can also be difficult to get paint to adhere to metallic surfaces. I've sort of solved this by using tinted varnishes. Varnish is thinned for the airbrush and then tinted O Like so many Star Wars, the Gozanti Cruiser is a lumbering beast that has seen plenty of interstellar action - and that's what gives it its charm Like so many Star Wars, the Gozanti Cruiser is a lumbering beast that has...
